Inclusion in a President's budget is a major step toward securing future federal funding.  This week FTA Administrator this week discussed the reasons for including the Columbia River Crossing project in the President's FY 2012 budget:
“The existing bridge is inadequate and clearly needs replacement,” Rogoff said. “We are really keying on this project because WashDOT and all the other partners … are getting it right in that we’re going to build this big piece of infrastructure and combine all the highway and transit elements all at once.”
The project and three others are eligible to compete for funds from a $400 million program.
